Illustrative work for ‘Paranoid Narcissism’

These illustrations are studies of a sculpture presumably representing the Vucub-Caquix, a powerful bird pretending to be the sun and moon of the twilight world in between the former creation and the present one. This bird demon was defeated by the Hero Twins in the Mexican creation myth Popul Vuh. The sculpture is on the display at the Museo Nacional de Antropología e Historia de Mexico.

Based between London and Athens, Alix Janta-Polczynski is engaged in various independent projects. In 2009, she co-founded Art Barter (www.artbarter.co.uk), a platform to promote the use of barter between artists and the public through exhibitions. Successive events were held in London, Berlin, New York, Madrid, Istanbul, Mexico City and Dubai, and most recently Athens. Their goal to support young talent materialised in 2012 through the creation of Alteria Art (www.alteriaart.com), a collaborative vehicle closely working with both emerging and established artists through an eclectic program of exhibitions, talks and commissioned works. She also has experience as part-time assistant of independent curators James Putnam and Olivier Varenne. In the past years, she was running Adad Books (www.adadbooks.com), a publishing company specialising in photography works.
